How a boarding school dreamer became a music mogul, martial arts instructor, and found love through song
In the sterile halls of an Italian boarding school, a young Gianluca Zanna would press his ear to contraband radios, absorbing the sounds of American rock and pop that seemed to whisper promises of a different life. Years later, as he polished his combat boots in military school, those same dreams persisted—America wasn't just a destination, it was destiny.

Today, Zanna's journey from Italian immigrant to music industry maverick reads like a Hollywood script, complete with chance encounters, dangerous detours, and a love story that spans continents. His latest single "You Are My Destiny," featuring his real-life partner Claudette Lyons, is currently spinning on radio stations worldwide—a testament to both his musical vision and the power of pursuing impossible dreams.
The Publisher's Prelude
Zanna's first taste of the music industry came early and impressively. As the youngest music publisher for Italy's Contatto Discografico magazine, he was already making waves in European music circles while his peers were still figuring out their career paths. But it was a fateful meeting at MIDEM 1995 that would change everything.
"I met Claes Cornelius at MIDEM," Zanna recalls of the industry veteran who discovered Ace of Base and worked as A&R for Mega Records. "Something clicked immediately—not just professionally, but personally. He became like a mentor to me."
That connection planted the seed that would eventually pull Zanna across the Atlantic. By 1998, he had made the leap, leaving behind everything familiar to chase his American dream of becoming a music producer.

The Bodyguard Years
What followed wasn't the immediate success story you might expect. Like many immigrants, Zanna found himself taking on work that paid the bills while he pursued his passion. But his day job was hardly ordinary—he became a bodyguard and Krav Maga military instructor, skills that proved both physically and mentally valuable in the cutthroat music industry.
"Those years taught me discipline, how to read people, and most importantly, how to protect what matters," Zanna explains. "In the music business, you need those skills more than you might think."
Building his Zanna Records
The breakthrough came when Zanna met Award-Winning Multiplatinum Music Producer Brian Reeves, which led to the founding of Zanna Records. The label became his platform to not just produce music, but to create it on his own terms, free from the constraints of major label politics.
But perhaps the most remarkable chapter of Zanna's story began in the digital age. Through online connections, he met Claudette Lyons, a singer whose voice would become not just the soundtrack to his professional success, but the harmony to his personal life.

"Meeting Claudette changed everything," Zanna says. "She wasn't just a talented vocalist—she understood the vision, the dream. 'You Are My Destiny' isn't just a song title, it's our story."

Full Circle
In a twist that feels almost too perfectly scripted, January 2024 brought Zanna full circle. After nearly 30 years, he reconnected with Claes Cornelius through Facebook—the same industry legend who had inspired his American journey decades earlier.
"When Claes reached out, it was like the universe was completing a circle," Zanna reflects. "Here was this man who had shaped my early understanding of the music industry, and now we're collaborating as equals." The reunion has proved creatively explosive. Cornelius has joined the Zanna Records team, and together they're co-writing Cornelius's autobiography "All That I Wanted," while simultaneously crafting new hit songs that blend their decades of combined experience.
The Sound of Success
"You Are My Destiny" represents more than just another single—it's the culmination of Zanna's journey from Italian dreamer to American success story. The track, featuring Lyons's soaring vocals over Zanna's production, has found its way onto radio playlists around the world, proving that authentic stories still resonate in an increasingly manufactured industry.
The song's success also highlights Zanna's evolution as a producer. Gone are the days of chasing trends; instead, he's crafting music that reflects genuine emotion and experience. "When you've lived as much as I have—military school, bodyguard work, immigration, building a business from nothing—you have stories worth telling," he says.
Looking Forward
As Zanna Records continues to grow, with Cornelius adding his golden touch to the roster, Zanna remains grounded in the dreams that first pulled him from that Italian boarding school. The boy who once pressed his ear to forbidden radios now creates the music that others discover in their own moments of inspiration.
"America gave me the chance to become who I was meant to be," Zanna concludes. "But it took all those detours—the military training, the bodyguard work, even the years of struggle—to give me something worth sharing. Now, with Claudette by my side and Claes back in my life, it feels like the real story is just beginning."

In an industry often criticized for its manufactured nature, Gianluca Zanna's story stands as proof that authentic dreams, pursued with unwavering dedication, can still create magic. From Italian boarding school to American radio waves, his journey reminds us that the best music comes from the most unexpected places—and that destiny, like love, has a way of finding us when we least expect it.
