From Nothing to the World: An Immigrant Who Once Lived on the Streets of Rome Now Reaches 477 Radio Stations in 99 Countries

Built with nothing but discipline, vision, and his own songs, Gianluca Zanna's independent label now airs on six continents — a story of what belief in a dream can become.

SEDONA, ARIZONA — In 1998, Gianluca Zanna arrived in the United States with almost nothing. Today, the music he creates as founder of the independent label Zanna Records airs on 477 radio stations across 99 countries and territories on six continents, has surpassed 35.5 million views on YouTube, has reached 20,000 subscribers, and has placed him among the top 5% of streamed songwriters worldwide — all verified by WARM (World Airplay Radio Monitor), Songstats, and vidIQ. The distance between those two moments is the whole story.
A dream that started with nothing
Before America, there was Rome — and hardship. Zanna had built a business in Italy, only to watch it collapse under a tax burden he could not survive. What followed was not a soft landing. For roughly fifteen months, he lived on the streets of Rome, performing as a costumed gladiator near the ancient monuments of the city that had raised him. It was, he says, the lowest and most clarifying chapter of his life. “Italy gave me my culture, my music, and my education, and I will always love it,” said Zanna. “But in the end, all it could offer me was survival on the street. I made a decision: I would rather risk everything on a dream in a new country than accept a life that had no room for mine.”

Arriving with discipline, focus, and songs
Zanna emigrated to the United States with no safety net — no label, no money, no connections. What he carried instead were three things he still credits for everything that followed: discipline, vision, and his songs. He built his life the way he now builds his catalog — one deliberate step at a time. Over the years he developed parallel careers as a security and personal-protection professional, an audio and sound-effects entrepreneur, and an investor in commercial real estate, each venture funding and reinforcing the next, and each teaching the same lesson: consistency compounds.

Built independently, from the Arizona high desert
Zanna Records operates with no major-label machine behind it. Its founder runs the label from an off-grid ranch in the Arizona high desert — solar power, well water, satellite internet, and open sky — a setting as far from the streets of Rome as a life can travel. The catalog now spans more than 150 original compositions across EDM, rock, classical, and operatic styles.

“I want every person who feels stuck, broke, or counted out to hear this,” Zanna said. “I had nothing. I slept on stone. And I built a dream that now reaches almost a hundred countries — with no shortcuts, no connections, just work I refused to quit. If I could do it from where I started, so can you. Believe in your dream, and then out-discipline your doubt.”
